Type of Finish: Gun Paint

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The muzzle and grooves are semi bright. There is fouling in the bore which should clean up some. There is light erosion near the muzzle.
In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates 8 out of 10.
Many military and C&R-eligible weapons have bores that will show erosion. This is not only due to age but to the fact that corrosive primers were commonly used in ammunition worldwide. For example, the U.S. used corrosive ammunition throughout WWII. The U.S. military did not begin to phase out corrosive-primed ammunition until the 1950s.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its metal finish as refinished. The metal shows scattered scrapes and small scratches. The font of the barrel shows some discoloration from oxidation. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads show use. Some of the receiver markings have been lost. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition, as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a No. 32 scope assembly; see above.
The rifle has a leather sling attached. The rifle also comes with a 10-round magazine that shows scrapes and some light surface erosion. The magazine appears to function correctly.

Our Assessment: The Enfield No4 MkI rifle is a bolt-action rifle that was used by the British military during World War II. The No4 MkI was the standard issue rifle for British and Commonwealth forces from 1939 until the mid-1950s when it was replaced by the L1A1 SLR (Self-Loading Rifle). It saw extensive service during World War II and was also used by many other countries after the war. The No4 MkI was known for its accuracy, reliability, and durability, and it remains a popular firearm among collectors and shooters today.

This Enfield No.4 MkI (T) Sniper Rifle started life in 1945 as an Enfield No.4 Mk1 made at BSA Shirley. It was selected for its inherent accuracy and then upgraded to sniper configuration by Holland & Holland. The rifle was eventually imported into the U.S. and is marked accordingly on the stock collar (receiver). The rifle has since been refinished. It comes with a No. 32 scope assembly. The rifle is in Very Good Plus condition. The scope view is clear & bright. It should do well out at the range.

…Now go shoot something!
