Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light wear from previous use and previous military service. There is no indication that the parts were refinished at the time of import, so there is still some rough storage wear still present as well as scratches throughout and some corrosion on the dust cover. The CUR-2 was imported in a hurry when Romania became open to travel in the market so most if not all CUR-2’s imported were thrown together with non matching serial numbers. The screw heads are sharp and serviceable and the pins are unmarred. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Condition.
Mechanics: The action functions very well. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.
Our Assessment: This rifle fits well in the vast and immersive history of AK imports. Being one of the first rifles to be imported to the U.S. from Romania, the CUR-2 is the 5.45×39 version of the WASR-2. As stated above, the first batches of Imports received from Romania by Intrac were put together by non matching serial parts due to Romarms eagerness to get into the booming firearms market. Of course being late to the game meant that the configuration had to be compliant with the infamous ban of 1989. With Bayonet filed smooth and muzzle devices fixed, the CUR-2 would be well received as a new wonderful addition to the AK market in the U.S., chambered in the AK74 cartridge. Shortly after, the CUR-2 would be named the Mark 2 in which most of those 5.45×39 rifles had matching parts. Sporting a classic PSL style look and shining with a particular beauty as only imported AK rifles do, this rifle will make a wonderful and powerful addition to any arsenal and is a must have for AK collectors who may not have an early Romanian import. Good Luck!
