Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: Germany adopted the Lange Pistole 08, better known as the Artillery Luger, in 1913 for artillery crews, machine gunners and other troops who needed more reach than a standard P08 but did not carry a rifle. Its long barrel, tangent rear sight graduated out to 800 meters and detachable board stock turned the Luger into a compact carbine. During World War I it was paired with the 32 round TM08 snail drum, most famously in the hands of German assault troops in the trenches.
This 1917 DWM example comes as a complete rig: the pistol with its board stock and leather holster, a cleaning rod and a TM08 snail drum. The pistol retains about 85% of its original blue, which is strong for a WWI service arm, the grips are free of major damage, and the action functions correctly. The bore shows corrosion and erosion and rates 5/10. Complete Artillery Luger rigs with a snail drum are increasingly hard to find, making this an exciting piece for the WWI or Luger collector.-C.M.
