Markings: “DAVID HOFFMAN 1981” on top of barrel and the number 24 on the left flat near the chamber. Heavy Carving throughout the wood stock including an Oak Leaf
Barrel Length: 38” octagon barrel with seven sided rifling.
Sights/ Optics: U-notch dovetailed to the rear and blade front.
Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The stock is wood with heavy grain and dark maple stain with browned fittings. There are multiple spots of handling wear, minor scratches, scuffs, and small dents throughout. Overall the stock is in Very Good Condition.

Bore Condition: Bore is bright . Rifling is sharp and deep. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10 for a muzzle loader Rifle.
Overall Condition: This Jaeger Style flintlock rifle is in very Good Condition. The metal surfaces have minor handling wear and scratches throughout. The browned fittings all have small spots of finish loss, though this is more pronounced on the lockplate screws, rear sight,nose cap and the leading edges of the buttplate. The barrel is in fine shape as well as the lock. There is finish loss on some of the leading edges to the stock. The Jeager Styling is ornate and intricate. The cheek shelf is well pronounced and the patch box works fluidly. Overall this hand crafted Rifle is in Fine shape for a muzzle loader of its age.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The flint does seem a little short in this writer’s opinion. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This contemporary flintlock rifle was made by noted muzzleloading gunsmith David Hoffman. It has an octagon barrel, a flint lock, and a Dual Set hunting trigger. This would fit great into any Living Historian’s repertoire or of course be a prize in a contemporary flintlock rifle collection. So bid high and bid firm.
