Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked with the serial number, and “1:9 / 17 HORNET”. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number, “MADE IN / CZECH REPUBLIC CZ 527 American”, and the CZ logo. The right side of the barrel and right side of the receiver is marked with a proof mark and the “14” date code.

Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. The top of the receiver is mounted with a Leupold Vari-X II 6-18x scope, with a fine crosshair reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows light handling wear. Overall, the scope rates in Fine condition. The scope is mounted directly to the dovetail on the receiver by 1″ rings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered wood stock, with a semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, black rubber CZ buttpad, a checkered forend, and sling studs front and rear. The LOP measures 13 3/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows no notable wear. The checkering is well defined, and the stock’s finish is intact. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows no notable wear. The bluing is deep, dark, and intact throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The CZ 527 American is a compact Czech bolt-action sporting rifle built around CZ’s small Mauser-style action, known for controlled-round feeding, smooth handling, and excellent accuracy potential. Chambered in .17 Hornet, this example pairs a 22″ barrel with a 1:9″ twist, detachable magazine, and an optics-ready dovetailed receiver. The .17 Hornet is a fast, flat-shooting varmint cartridge with mild recoil, making this rifle particularly well suited for prairie dogs, small predators, and precision target shooting at extended rimfire-like distances.
This rifle is in Excellent condition overall, retaining about 99% of its original blue finish with no notable metal wear. The checkered wood stock remains in Excellent condition with well-defined checkering, an intact finish, and no chips or cracks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, rating 10/10, while the action and safety function correctly. The included Leupold Vari-X II 6-18x scope has clear glass and remains in Fine condition, and the rifle also includes an Excellent-condition factory 5-round magazine.
