Our Assessment: The CZ 805 Bren PS1 is a civilian semi automatic variant of the Czech military’s modern service rifle, developed by Ceská Zbrojovka as a successor to the long serving Vz. 58 platform. Adopted by the Czech Armed Forces in the early 2010s, the Bren series was designed around a modular, short stroke gas piston system with ambidextrous controls and compatibility with modern optics and accessories. This 2015 production example reflects that contemporary military design philosophy, featuring a monolithic top rail, quad aperture rear sight, and fully modular furniture. Configured here as a registered Short Barreled Rifle, the 10.9 inch barrel paired with the folding and collapsible stock system provides a compact, adaptable platform while maintaining the robust operating characteristics of the Bren system.
Chambered in 5.56×45 NATO, the standard intermediate cartridge adopted by NATO forces in the 1960s and known for its controllability and effective range in modern service rifles, this example retains approximately 99 percent of its original anodized finish with only minimal wear visible near the gas system. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion, rating 9.5 out of 10. With its modern military lineage, compact SBR configuration, and excellent overall condition, this CZ 805 Bren PS1 represents a current production service rifle platform adapted for the civilian market.
