Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “1:9″ / 17 HORNET”. The right side of the barrel is marked with a couple proof marks and the “17” date code. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number, “MADE IN / CZECH REPUBLIC CZ 527 VARMINT”, and the CZ logo. The right side of the receiver is marked with a proof mark and CZ’s Kansas City address.
Barrel Length: 24″ Medium Contour, Threaded 15×1 w/Thread Protector. 1:9″ Twist.
Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. The top of the receiver is mounted with a Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16×42 scope, with a BDC reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows no notable wear. Overall, the scope rates in Excellent condition. The scope is mounted directly to the receiver’s dovetail by 1″ rings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered Turkish walnut stock, with a semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, black rubber CZ buttpad, a checkered forend, and sling studs front and rear. The LOP measures 13 7/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows light handling wear, with only a couple of minor compression marks scattered throughout, most notably on the bottom of the forend. The checkering is well defined, and the stock’s finish is intact, with attractive grain. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Fine to Excellent condition.
Magazine Quantity & Condition: This rifle does not have a magazine, however, the magazine has been replaced with a custom billet steel single shot sled.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling wear, with one minor hairline scratch on the top of the barrel. The bluing is deep, dark, and intact throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The single set trigger has a light, crisp, and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope, and the single shot sled as mentioned above, as well as its original serial number matching box.
Our Assessment: CZ’s 527 Varmint is a compact Czech-made bolt action rifle built around the well regarded mini Mauser style 527 action, offering smooth handling, controlled round feed, and strong accuracy potential in small centerfire cartridges. This 2017 example is chambered in .17 Hornet, a high-velocity, low recoil varmint cartridge known for flat trajectory, efficiency, and excellent small game and predator utility. This rifle features a 24″ medium-contour barrel threaded 15×1 with thread protector, 1:9″ twist, blued finish, checkered Turkish walnut stock, and a Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16×42 scope with clear glass mounted directly to the receiver dovetail. The .17 Hornet chambering, quality Vortex optic, attractive walnut stock, threaded barrel, and crisp single-set trigger should appeal to varmint hunters and precision-minded shooters looking for a refined small-caliber field rifle.
This rifle rates in Fine to Excellent overall condition, retaining about 99% of its original blued finish with only light handling wear and one minor hairline scratch on top of the barrel. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, rating 10/10 in this writer’s opinion. The Turkish walnut stock rates in Fine to Excellent condition, showing only a couple minor compression marks, most notably on the bottom of the forend, while retaining attractive grain, well-defined checkering, an intact finish, tight fit, and no chips or cracks. The Vortex scope rates in Excellent condition, the markings are clear and legible, the screw heads are sharp, and the action, safety, and single-set trigger function correctly. This rifle does not include a standard magazine, but it is fitted with a custom billet steel single-shot sled and includes its original serial-number-matching box.
