Our Assessment: Introduced in 1990 by Ceská zbrojovka at its Uherský Brod works, the CZ 527 succeeded the ZKB 680 Fox in a line of compact Mauser-pattern sporting rifles that traces back to the post-war ZKW 465. Built as a true miniature Mauser with controlled-round feeding, it was scaled to cartridges such as the .22 Hornet, .222 Remington, and .223 Remington, and it was offered with either a standard or a set trigger. The American variant paired the action with a classic American-style stock and no iron sights, intended to wear a scope. CZ later replaced the 527 with the CZ 600 series, introduced in 2021.
This 2019 left-handed 527 American is a near-new example in an especially appealing configuration, retaining about 99% of its metal finish with a deep, bright blue and only very light handling wear. The checkered stock is free of chips and cracks, the 10/10 bore is bright and sharp and appears unfired outside of factory testing, and the action functions correctly with its push-to-set trigger. Fitted with a Picatinny rail section and accompanied by its original serial-matched CZ-USA box, paperwork, and four magazines, this is a superb opportunity for a left-handed shooter to own one of CZ’s most admired small-caliber Mausers.
