The LOP measures 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad, in its current configuration. The stock shows light handling wear, with only a few light handling marks present throughout. The stock’s finish is intact throughout. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Fine to Excellent condition.
Type of Finish: Stainless (Barrel), Blued (Receiver, Bottom Metal, Bolt)
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling and light operational wear. There are only minor superficial imperfections throughout the metal surfaces. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. However, about half of the time, the trigger will engage when the bolt is being closed. We recommend a qualified gunsmith adjust the pull weight of the aftermarket Timney Trigger to prevent this from happening. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with its original serial number matching box, owner’s manual, and the scope mounts as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: The Remington Model 700 XCR Tactical was designed as a corrosion-resistant, precision-oriented variant of the long-established Model 700 platform. Produced in the late 2000s, the XCR Tactical models were intended to combine durability with practical accuracy, making them popular among precision and varmint shooters. This example has been further upgraded with a 24 inch stainless heavy contour Hart Rifle Barrels replacement barrel and fitted into an H-S Precision composite stock, elevating it beyond its original factory configuration.
Chambered in .223 Remington, this rifle is built around one of the most widely used small-caliber centerfire cartridges in modern sporting and precision disciplines. The .223 Remington offers manageable recoil and broad bullet selection, making it suitable for target shooting and varmint applications. The heavy contour Hart barrel and free-floating composite stock support precision-oriented use, while the aftermarket Timney trigger enhances trigger control, though adjustment is recommended due to the noted engagement issue when closing the bolt.
This example presents in fine to excellent overall condition, retaining nearly all of its original finish with only light handling and operational wear visible. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling, though light fouling is present. It should be noted that the trigger intermittently engages when the bolt is closed, and evaluation or adjustment by a qualified gunsmith is recommended prior to use. With its upgraded barrel, composite stock, and included factory box and mounts, this rifle stands as a customized precision-oriented Model 700 platform.
