Our Assessment: This custom Pennsylvania Long Rifle in .36 caliber is an attractive traditional-style flintlock muzzleloader built circa the 1960s–1980s. It features a 42″ barrel, flintlock ignition, double set triggers, silver blade front sight, fixed buckhorn rear sight, and a one-piece maple stock with capped forend, three ramrod pipes, straight grip, straight comb, and crescent brass buttplate. The long barrel, small-bore chambering, maple furniture, and flintlock action give it the classic profile of a Pennsylvania-style sporting or target rifle, making it appealing to black powder enthusiasts and collectors of custom traditional muzzleloaders.

Condition is good overall, with the stock presenting better than the metal finish. The maple stock is in Very Good condition, showing only light scratches and compression dents with no chips or cracks. The rifle retains approximately 85% of its original antique gray/lacquer finish, though the lacquer has peeled and flaked in several areas, and there are scratches and light corrosion stains scattered throughout. The screw heads are lightly tooled but serviceable. The bore is semi-bright with well-defined rifling and no erosion, though moderate fouling and storage dust are present, resulting in an 8/10 bore rating in the writer’s opinion.

Overall, this custom Pennsylvania Long Rifle presents as a functional and visually appealing shooter-grade flintlock with traditional lines and honest cosmetic wear. The hammer holds at full and half cock, the flint sparks, and the touch hole is clear, all of which support its basic mechanical condition. The double set trigger configuration, long 42″ barrel, good bore, and clean maple stock all contribute positively to its appeal, while the flaking lacquer, scattered corrosion staining, moderate bore fouling, and light screw wear keep it from rating higher. While it has not been test-fired and should be thoroughly cleaned and inspected before use, it remains a solid candidate for black powder collection, display, or careful range use.
