Barrel Length: 34″, Ported, Vent-Rib
Choke: The barrel has been threaded for Briley S12 chokes, included are Full, Light Full, Modified and Improved Cylinder, all extended ported chokes.
Weight: 10 lb., 4.4 oz.
Sights / Optics: There is a base at the front of the rib which appears to have had a white bead break off, and a smaller white mid-bead. The top of the rib and its extension are serrated for glare reduction.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece checkered select walnut with fleur de lis accents, beavertail forend, pistol grip, adjustable monte carlo comb (by TronSpace), and black rubber Kick Eez recoil pad on an adjustable buttplate. There is a blue spacer between the stock and buttplate assembly. The top of the grip has had a custom thumb-rest installed, appearing to be some sort of resin and glue. The stocks have some scattered nicks and scratches, more notable on the left of the buttstock. There is a scuff on the bottom-right of the forend toward the front that is through the finish. The right grip checkering shows handling wear, but the checkering is otherwise well defined. There are no chips or cracks. As currently adjusted, the drop at comb measures approximately 1 1/4″ at the front of the comb, 1″ at the back, and drop at heel is 2″. The LOP measures 15″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the recoil pad, 13 1/2″ to the back of the wood. The pad has some wear, but is still quite supple. The stocks rate in Very Good-Fine overall condition as customized.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 80% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at most edges. Most of the balance is handling wear on the action, primarily on the bottom. There are some scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. The action shows operational wear. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in Good-plus condition (see Mechanics)
Mechanics: The gun will fire if closed with too much force. This should be addressed by a gunsmith prior to loading or firing this gun. Otherwise, the action functions correctly. The barrel locks up to the receiver with barely perceptible play. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun comes in a leather and canvas bound luggage case with the additional chokes noted above, spare parts including mainsprings, tools and inserts for the adjustable comb.
Our Assessment: Manufacturing only 340 Shotguns a year at its height in the early 1980s, the Ljutic facility made these guns with pride and precision. Known for their futuristic “Space Guns”, Ljutic holds a very special place in American gunmaking history. This Ljutic Mono Gun looks like it knows its way around a Trap field, showing wear consistent with being used for its intended purpose. It is important to note that the gun will fire if closed with too much force, this should be addressed by a gunsmith prior to loading or firing. The stock has been customized with an adjustable comb, adjustable buttplate, and a custom thumb-rest. Despite the handling wear, the gun retains a great bore. Once the sear engagement has been fixed, this shotgun ought to have quite a few rounds of trap left in it. It will also make an interesting addition to a collection, with only a few thousand guns made since their founding in the 1950s, Ljutic shotguns always make for a great conversation piece. Please see our photos and good luck!
