Our Assessment: The Remington Model 700 is a proven foundation for custom precision and hunting rifles, and this example has been substantially upgraded by Jarrett Rifles into a two-barrel custom package. The rifle is configured for both .22-250 Ackley Improved and .338 Jarrett, giving it a wide range of potential use from flat-shooting varmint and target work to powerful big-game hunting. The .22-250 Ackley barrel measures 24 1/2”, while the .338 Jarrett barrel measures 22” without the brake and 24” with the brake installed. There are no iron sights, and the receiver is equipped with a Leupold QD base and 30mm rings, making the rifle well suited for scoped use and caliber-specific optic setups.
This rifle retains about 95% of its current mixed blued and stainless finish, with handling and operational wear and scattered scratches throughout. The screw heads are tooled but serviceable, and the markings, including the Jarrett Rifles caliber markings and Remington Model 700 receiver markings, remain clear. Both bores are bright with sharp rifling and no erosion; in this writer’s opinion, both rate 9.5/10. Mechanically, the rifle appears functional, and the older Jewell aftermarket trigger breaks crisply, which is a desirable feature for a custom rifle of this type. The rifle has not been test fired.
The one-piece fiberglass stock is pillar and glass bedded and features a semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb with cheekpiece, and Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. It shows scratches and scattered finish chips, rating Good to Very Good overall, but remains a purpose-built stock appropriate for a serious custom hunting rifle. Included with the rifle are the extra barrel, associated bolt, and scope rings. Overall, this is a compelling Jarrett-custom Remington 700 switch-barrel package with excellent bores, quality bedding work, a crisp Jewell trigger, and highly specialized chamberings, best suited for the experienced shooter or hunter who appreciates custom rifle performance and understands the need to verify setup, headspace, and zero when changing barrel and bolt combinations.
