Markings: The receiver bears the serial number “W1X,” along with partial markings consistent with the Gewehr 98 action. The scope mounts are marked “Conetrol, Seguin, Texas.” The caliber is not marked on the firearm but is determined by the accompanying RCBS die set marked “FL DIE SET .218 Mashburn Bee.”
Barrel Length: 24 inches, blued steel
Sights / Optics: This rifle is equipped with scope rings mounted on Conetrol bases. There are no iron sights installed. There are two sets of drilled tapped and filled holes on the top of the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The rifle features a high-gloss, beautifully figured tiger-striped maple stock with a capped pistol grip, straight comb with a raised cheekpiece, a checkered metal buttplate, set of sling rings, and diamond inlays under the receiver. There are no visible cracks, chips, or major defects, only minor handling marks consistent with light use. The stock rates in about Fine condition. The LOP measures approximately 13 1/4” from the trigger to the back of the checkered steel buttplate.
Magazine Quantity & Condition: Internal magazine.
Type of Finish: Blued steel barrel and action.
Finish Originality: Refinished.
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no visible erosion, pitting, or fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. There is some minor handling wear and thinning at the bolt handle and trigger guard. The markings on the receiver are clear. The screw heads are unmarred. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly but the safety has been removed. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
