Our Assessment: This Custom Colt Commercial Series National Match Style 1911 was manufactured in 1941 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic pistol. Produced by Colt during the final pre-war commercial production period, this pistol began life as a standard commercial Government Model and was later modified to emulate a National Match configuration. 1941 commercial Colts represent the end of an era just prior to the transition to full wartime military production.

Chambered in .45 Auto with a 5 inch barrel, this pistol has been upgraded with a National Match barrel and bushing to enhance accuracy potential. It is fitted with a “Triangle” and “U.S.” marked rear sight and an aftermarket dual-staked front sight. The Swartz firing pin safety system has been removed. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5 out of 10, indicating excellent internal condition. The action functions correctly.

This firearm retains approximately 95 percent of its refinished metal finish, presenting a clean and cohesive appearance consistent with its National Match style conversion. The grips rate in Excellent condition with minimal visible wear. Overall, this firearm is in Very Good Plus condition and stands as an interesting example of a pre-war commercial Colt modified to reflect the highly desirable National Match configuration.
