Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / ****MOD. 1895GS CAL. 45/70 GOVT.****”. The right side of the barrel is marked with a 2-line warning. The right side of the receiver is marked with the serial number. The top of the receiver is marked “Brockman’s Rifles”.
Barrel Length: 18″
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a protected blade, screwed to the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable aperture ghost ring sight, with two protective wings, screwed to the receiver. There is a two-piece scope base screwed to the barrel, for a scout scope.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two-piece smooth laminate wood stock set, with a straight grip, straight comb, black rubber Limbsaver buttpad, capped forend, sling studs front and rear, and a four-round cartridge trap in the belly of the buttstock. The LOP measures 13 3/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stocks show no notable wear. The finish on the stocks is intact, and the stocks fit tightly to the frame, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stocks rate in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its current metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling wear, with some light operational wear on the bolt, minor finish wear on the loading gate, and a couple minor hairline scratches on the lever. Otherwise, the finish is intact. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the cross-bolt and half-cock safeties. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Marlin Model 1895GS is a compact stainless .45-70 lever-action rifle built for hard use in the field, and this example was further customized by Brockman’s Rifles into a purpose-built big and dangerous game hunting configuration. Brockman’s upgrades include a gray Cerakote refinish, laminate furniture, protected front sight, receiver-mounted ghost-ring rear sight, forward scout-scope bases, Limbsaver recoil pad, and a four-round cartridge trap built into the buttstock. Combined with the 18″ barrel and powerful .45-70 Government chambering, the result is a rugged, fast-handling rifle intended for close to medium range hunting in demanding conditions.
This rifle is in Fine to Excellent condition overall, retaining about 98% of its current Brockman’s applied metal finish with only light operational wear on the bolt, minor loading gate wear, and a couple of light hairline scratches on the lever. The laminate stocks remain in Excellent condition with an intact finish, tight fit, and no chips or cracks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, rating 10/10, while the action, cross-bolt safety, and half-cock safety function correctly. The combination of Brockman’s workmanship, practical sighting system, weather-resistant finish, and custom cartridge-storage stock makes this a particularly distinctive and well executed Marlin 1895GS.
