Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. The top of the receiver is mounted with a scope base.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered walnut stock, with a capped semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, black rubber Decelerator buttpad, a checkered forend, and sling studs front and rear. The LOP measures 13 3/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. There is little to no wear. There are a few faint scratches and compression marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in about Excellent condition. 

Magazine Quantity & Condition: 1x 3rd factory magazine, in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows no notable wear. The bluing is deep, dark, and intact throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition. 

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The trigger has a crisp and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Cooper Model 54 is a premium American bolt-action hunting rifle known for its precision machining, excellent out-of-the-box accuracy, and high-quality walnut stock fit and finish. Chambered in .243 Winchester, this example is well suited for varmint and medium-game hunting, offering flat trajectory performance and low recoil. It is configured with a 22” barrel, matte blued finish, detachable magazine feed, scope base installed on the receiver, and a finely checkered walnut stock with semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, black rubber Decelerator buttpad, checkered forend, and sling studs.

This Model 54 is in Excellent condition overall, retaining about 99% of its original matte blued finish with no notable wear beyond a few faint handling marks. The walnut stock also rates in Excellent condition, showing only faint scratches and light compression marks, with no chips or cracks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and rates 10 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly, the safety operates properly, and the trigger breaks cleanly and crisply. This rifle comes with a 3-round factory magazine, scope mount, and factory box, making it an outstanding example for Cooper collectors, precision rifle shooters, and hunters seeking a high-end American bolt-action in .243 Winchester.
