Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope and magazine, as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: Cooper Firearms of Montana built its reputation on high-grade, small-batch bolt-action rifles emphasizing clean machining, strong accuracy potential, and traditional sporting rifle aesthetics. The Model 54 continues that approach, offering a controlled, refined action paired with premium walnut and carefully fitted components. This example is chambered in 7mm-08 Remington, a highly efficient cartridge known for mild recoil, strong downrange performance, and versatility for deer, antelope, and similar medium game. The rifle features a 22″ barrel, matte blued finish, detachable magazine system, checkered walnut stock, and a Vortex Viper 6-24×50 scope with EBR-1 MOA illuminated reticle mounted in 30mm rings. The combination of Cooper craftsmanship, quality walnut, high-magnification optic, and the capable 7mm-08 chambering should appeal to precision-minded hunters and collectors of higher-end American sporting rifles.
This rifle rates in Excellent overall condition, retaining about 99% of its original matte blued finish. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, rating 10/10 in this writer’s opinion. The walnut stock rates in Fine to Excellent condition, showing only light handling wear with a few minor dings and compressions, while retaining attractive grain, well-defined checkering, tight fit to the barreled action, and no chips or cracks. The metal shows no notable wear, with the finish remaining deep, dark, and intact throughout. The markings are clear and legible, the screw heads are sharp, and the action, safety, and crisp trigger function correctly. The Vortex scope rates in Very Good condition with clear glass, though the illumination function is inoperative (likely due to a dead battery), and the scope otherwise shows only light handling marks. This rifle includes the mounted scope and one 3-round factory magazine in Excellent condition. Please see our photos for a better understanding of condition, and good luck on your bids! – J.D.
