Our Assessment: This is an example of a contemporary custom .62 caliber muzzle-loading percussion rifle based on the Hawken series of rifles made famous in the mid-1800s by frontiersmen and mountain men. The only marking on the rifle is “J HAWKEN” on top of the barrel, which is the style but the rifle does not appear to actually be old enough to have been made by the Hawken company. The stock has some moderate wear to it, with most being around the upper tang and the trigger guard assembly. There is a very small and short crack at the rear of the upper tang. The metal has most of its finish, though there is a fair amount of wear to the forend plate. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and light erosion, but it could do with a cleaning before use. The set triggers function normally, as does the hammer. This would fit into any muzzleloader or contemporary Hawken collection. Please see our photos.
