The cylinder has turn-wear and there is operational wear on the hammer. There are a few scattered minor nicks and scratches. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in about Fine condition.
B399: This revolver retains about 92% of its metal finish. The engraving has been cut through the finish. The finish is otherwise generally strong, showing minor scuffing and handling wear. The cylinder has turn-wear and there is operational wear on the hammer. There are some scattered minor nicks and scratches. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Very Good-Fine condition.
Mechanics: The actions function correctly and quite smoothly, likely indicating that action jobs have been performed on each revolver. Cylinder lockup produces very little play on each chamber. The triggers are crisp. The cylinders have removable bushings. The firing pins are tapered and there are windows in the loading gates at the hinge, indicative of Italian-made parts. We did not fire these revolvers. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.
Our Assessment: Colt’s Model 1873, the Single Action Army, is the “gun that won the west”, perhaps the most iconic handgun of all time. For nearly 150 years, the gun has been produced in a variety of configurations, finishes and calibers. This is a consecutive pair of USFA reproduction SAA revolvers. Founded in 1998, USFA had some early revolvers which were made using parts made in Italy but were fitted and assembled at their US production facility, which just happened to be “under the Blue Dome” at the original Colt factory in Hartford, Connecticut. This pair are nickel finished 5 1/2″ barrel revolvers chambered for .38 Colt and S&W Special cartridges. The guns have been engraved and make quite the attractive set! The U.S. Firearms company has gone out of business and their guns have become quite collectible. A set like this would be a great addition to a collection, but they’re also quite well suited for use in Cowboy Action Shooting competition. Please see our photos and good luck!
