Markings: The left side of the frame is marked “THE WOODSMAN.” The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT AUTOMATIC CAL. .22 LONG RIFLE” with the Colt rampant horse logo. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A. / PAT’D DEC. 22, 1903, AUG. 27, 1918, SEPT. 3, 1918.” The serial number “88525” is marked on the front strap.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed blade. The rear sight is an adjustable notch dovetailed into the slide.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered walnut. The checkering is well-defined with light handling wear. There are minor nicks and handling marks. The stocks rate in about very good overall condition.
Magazine Quantity & Condition: One 10-round magazine in good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9 `/10.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 85% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows thinning at the leading edges, handling marks, and minor finish wear on the front strap and high points of the slide. The markings are sharp. The screw heads are lightly tooled with serviceable slots. Overall, this pistol rates in about very good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Colt Woodsman is one of the most well-regarded .22 caliber pistols ever produced, known for its accuracy, reliability, and craftsmanship. Designed by John Browning and refined by Colt engineers, the Woodsman was a favorite among target shooters and small game hunters alike. This example, manufactured in 1934, is a First Series Woodsman with the straight-back grip frame, long barrel, and classic Colt styling.
Retaining about 85% of its original blued finish, this pistol has aged gracefully with honest wear that speaks to its history. The checkered walnut grips remain in very good condition, and the adjustable rear sight allows for precision shooting. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling, making this a fine candidate for continued use on the range.
