Our Assessment: The Colt Walker 1847 “The Heritage Commemorative” edition, with serial number 1436 out of 1850, is part of Colt’s Blackpowder Series, a line that pays tribute to the historic firearms that shaped American history. This specific edition celebrates one of the most legendary revolvers of the 19th century, the Colt Walker, originally designed in collaboration with Texas Ranger Captain Samuel H. Walker in 1847. The Walker was renowned for its formidable power and capacity, making it the most powerful black powder revolver of its time, widely used during the Mexican-American War and by frontiersmen across the expanding United States.
This commemorative model is meticulously crafted to mirror the original specifications and appearance of the 1847 Walker, including its .44 caliber chambering and distinctive features such as the large cylinder and long barrel, which contributed to its impressive accuracy and range. The “Heritage Commemorative” is distinguished by its limited production run, with only 1850 units made, signifying the year that Colt began mass production of their famous revolvers.
