All serialized parts match, and the mechanics are strong and functional.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, with strong lockup and smooth operation. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Includes a carry case and a factory letter documenting the revolver’s production and shipment.
Our Assessment: This Colt Single Action Army revolver, serial number 35601, offers a fascinating glimpse into both military and civilian use during its lifetime. Manufactured in 1877 and shipped to Schuyler, Hartley, & Graham, one of the largest Colt distributors at the time, this revolver bears a mix of what appears to be military acceptance marks and civilian markings, adding an element of mystery to its history.
The factory letter confirms that the revolver originally featured a 7.5-inch barrel and walnut grips. At some point, the barrel was professionally cut down to 5.25 inches, and the walnut grips were replaced with ivory grips featuring textured striations. Despite its age, the revolver retains strong mechanics, a semi-bright bore rated 7.5/10, and a unique historical appeal.
Whether for its historical significance, intriguing mixture of markings, or as a collectible piece of Colt history, this Single Action Army revolver is a treasure for collectors and enthusiasts alike. Complete with a carry case and a factory letter, this revolver represents a storied past and enduring craftsmanship. So bid high and bid firm. I highly encourage you to take a look at the condition of the revolver in our high-quality photos. Good luck with your bid. -K.F.
