Finish Originality: The finish is original to their parts. There appears to be some cold blue touch ups on the front sight and barrel.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp. There is some light erosion and pitting in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 8/10.

Many military and C&R eligible weapons have bores that will show erosion. This is not only due to age but to the fact that corrosive primers were commonly used in ammunition worldwide. For example, the U.S. used corrosive ammunition throughout WWII. The U.S. military did not begin to phase out corrosive-primed ammunition until the 1950s.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 85% of its original metal finish. There is light handling and operational wear. The barrel and cylinder apear to be replaced. The front sight has been filed flat and the back of the blade has been filed at an angle. The screw heads are lightly tool-marked with serviceable slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder locks up with minor play at full cock, and the trigger is crisp. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: The Colt Single Action Army revolver is one of the most iconic firearms in American history, famously carried by lawmen, outlaws, soldiers, and cowboys alike. First introduced in 1873, the SAA quickly became a standard-issue sidearm for the U.S. military and saw widespread use across the American frontier. By 1921, when this revolver was manufactured, the model had already cemented its place in history as “The Gun That Won the West.” The Pre-War period of Colt SAA production is particularly sought after by collectors due to the quality of craftsmanship and the refinement of the design over nearly 50 years of production.

This revolver is chambered in .45 Colt, a cartridge synonymous with the SAA and favored for its stopping power and versatility. The 5.5-inch barrel, often referred to as the “Artillery” length, offers a balance of accuracy and handling, making it a practical choice for both military and civilian use. While this revolver has seen honest wear, it still retains much of its original finish, and its markings remain clear, further adding to its desirability as a collectible. The mechanics remain solid, and the bore is in excellent condition, making it a fine candidate for both display and, with proper care, potential range use for those who appreciate shooting a piece of history.

Whether you are a seasoned Colt collector, a Western history enthusiast, or someone looking to own an authentic piece of American heritage, this 1921 Colt Single Action Army is a fantastic addition to any collection. With its solid mechanics, historical significance, and classic design, it stands as a true representation of Colt’s legendary craftsmanship. Don’t miss this opportunity to own a piece of history.
