Our Assessment:  The Colt Single Action Army is one of the most important revolvers in American firearms history, introduced in 1873 and forever associated with the frontier, lawmen, cavalry service, ranch use, and the development of the American West. After prewar production ended, Colt revived the SAA in 1956 with the 2nd Generation series, bringing back the classic single action revolver for a new generation of shooters and collectors. These 2nd Gen revolvers are highly regarded for their traditional Colt styling, case-colored frames, blued barrels and cylinders, side-loading gate operation, four-click action, and close connection to the earlier black powder and smokeless-era Single Action Army revolvers. This example was manufactured in 1960 and is chambered in .357 Magnum, a popular mid-20th century chambering that gave the SAA modern ballistic performance while retaining the classic 4 3/4” barrel handling. The carved ivory grip with Eagle & Shield motif adds strong visual appeal and gives this revolver a distinctive presentation quality beyond a standard factory-stocked example.

This Colt Single Action Army is a 2nd Generation .357 Magnum single action revolver with a 4.75” barrel, fixed sights, blued and case-colored finish, side-loading gate cylinder, and one-piece carved ivory grip with Eagle & Shield motif. The revolver retains about 90% of its original metal finish with scattered handling scratches and dings, finish loss and thinning on the barrel edges, trigger guard, and grip straps, operational wear on the ejector rod and hammer, a faint cylinder turn line, minor cylinder scratches, subdued case color, and corrosion freckling on the frame. The grip rates in Fine condition with handling marks, compression marks, age-related cracks, and no chips. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and fouling in the grooves, rating 9 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly, and the lockup is tight at each chamber. This revolver should appeal strongly to Colt collectors, 2nd Generation SAA enthusiasts, C&R handgun buyers, and collectors looking for a 1960 Colt Single Action Army in .357 Magnum with attractive carved ivory stocks.
