The grip cap has an inlaid rampant Colt medallion. There are thin cracks in each side of the wrist at the receiver tang. The stock has some light nicks and scratches. There are a couple of more notable marks on the bottom-right by the magazine well. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips. The LOP measures 13 5/8? from the front of the trigger to the back of the recoil pad. The pad is still supple with minor wear. Overall, the stock is in Good-plus condition.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some stubborn fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are a few light marks on the bottom metal in front of the magazine. The action shows faint operational wear. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good-Fine condition and would rate Excellent but for the cracks in the stock.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly and smoothly. The trigger is crisp. There is a loaded chamber indicator on the left of the chamber ring. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the installed bases and rings.
Our Assessment: From 1974 to 1985, Colt contracted J.P. Sauer and Sons to make a high quality bolt action rifle and Sauer came through, manufacturing the Colt Sauer in several action lengths. The unique non rotating bolt makes cycling this rifle smoother than most. This is a standard action model chambered in .25-06 Remington. Based on the .30-06 case necked down to .25 caliber, the cartridge is a great quarter-bore with a fairly flat trajectory, good for hunting where longer shots are expected. The rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish, a strong bore, and an attractive, though sadly cracked, stock. This will make a great hunting rifle, but it’s also a fairly scarce chambering in a desirable rifle, perfect to add to a collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
