Our Assessment:   The Colt Single Action Army is one of the most recognizable revolvers ever produced and has been closely associated with the lawmen, gunfighters, and frontier figures of the American West since its introduction in 1873. Chambered in .45 Colt and prized for its rugged single action design, the revolver became the sidearm of choice for many notable figures of the frontier era. During the late 1960s, Colt honored this legacy with the Lawman Series of commemorative revolvers, each dedicated to a legendary figure of the Old West whose story helped shape the mythology of the American frontier.

This example is the Wild Bill Hickok Lawman Series commemorative produced in 1969 as part of a limited run of only 500 revolvers. James Butler “Wild Bill” Hickok was one of the most famous lawmen and gunfighters of the Old West, serving as a lawman in several frontier towns and gaining lasting fame for his exploits and reputation as a skilled marksman. This commemorative revolver features a classic 7.5 inch barrel, non-fluted cylinder, and an attractive royal blue and nickel finish paired with Pearl-Lite grips bearing gold Colt medallions. Marked “Lawman Series Wild Bill Hickok,” this revolver is serial number 10 of the 500 produced, making it an especially early example from the limited production run.

This revolver remains in about Excellent overall condition and retains approximately 98 percent of its original finish with only light handling or storage wear. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and the mechanics function properly with tight cylinder lockup. It is accompanied by its gold felt lined presentation case, paperwork, and original cardboard protective sleeve marked for the Lawman Series Wild Bill Hickok commemorative. With its low serial number, limited production, and classic Single Action Army configuration, this revolver represents a highly collectible Colt commemorative honoring one of the most legendary figures of the American frontier.
