Overall, the grips rate in Fine-to-Excellent condition.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion, but very minor stubborn fouling is present in some of the grooves. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98% of its finish. There are some little freckles of oxidation on the lower edge of the shroud. Otherwise, only light handling wear is present. The cylinder has a faint turn line, not through the finish. The screws are sharp. All markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Fine-to-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lock-up on this revolver is solid, with no play when the trigger is depressed. The trigger is smooth in double action, and crisp in single action. We have not fired this revolver. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be required to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: This Python includes a matching box with a two piece foam tray and paperwork including the manual.
Our Assessment: In 1955, the United States launched the first nuclear-powered submarine, West Germany joined NATO, the Brooklyn Dodgers faced the New York Yankees in the World Series, and Colt began shipping the finest precision combat and target revolver ever made. Each revolver was hand-tuned at the factory and this attention to detail is exemplified both cosmetically and in operation. With barrel lengths ranging from 2.5? to 8? (as is the case with this majestic example) and with some of the finest machining and finishing ever seen in the industry, the Python has earned its reputation and continues to be sought after to this day. Colt Python revolvers are no longer made like earlier examples and the value of these fantastic weapons will only continue to increase. This revolver has been well kept over the past 42 years. In rather high condition, this will be a welcome addition to any collection, or an incredible start to one. Good luck and happy bidding!
