Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows a faint turn line on the cylinder and some scattered handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder locks in each position with no play when the trigger is pressed. We did not fire this firearm. We have cleaned this firearm and performed a mechanic’s check but expect many will want to clean the firearm again depending on their standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with a serial-matched Colt cardboard box with handwritten label and an instruction manual.
Our Assessment: In 1955, the United States launched the first nuclear-powered submarine, West Germany joined NATO, 83 people were killed and at least 100 are injured after two race cars collided in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and Colt began shipping the finest precision combat and target revolver ever made. Each revolver was hand-tuned at the factory and this attention to detail is exemplified both cosmetically and in operation. With barrel lengths ranging from 2.5? to 8? (this amazing example is 8”) and with maybe the finest machining and finishing ever seen in the industry, the Python has duly earned its reputation and continues to be highly sought after to this very day. The Colt Python revolvers are no longer being made like the originals, so the value of these weapons will continue to appreciate. This blued revolver from 1980 has been lovingly cared for over the past 42 years—it’s practically perfect in every way. With its factory box, its high condition, this would be a very welcome addition to just about any collection. Please see our photos and good luck in your bidding!
