Stock Configuration & Condition: The revolver wears two-piece checkered walnut target grips with gold Colt medallions, secured by a single grip screw. Overall, the stock rates in Good condition.
Type of Finish: Blued
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is light fouling in the grooves. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 95% of its original blue finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling and operational wear. There is light thinning and edge wear on the frame edges, the rear sight housing corners, the muzzle edges, and the trigger guard, with scattered light handling marks on the barrel and cylinder. The markings are clear. The screws are lightly tooled with strong slots. Overall, this revolver rates in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions properly in both single and double action. There is no play at each chamber. The cylinder swings out freely on its crane, the ejector rod operates, and the cylinder locks up with the hammer cocked. The hammer has a serrated spur and the trigger is grooved. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.
Our Assessment: The Colt Python, introduced in 1955, was Colt’s premium hand-fitted .357 Magnum target revolver, built on the large I frame with the distinctive ventilated rib and full underlug that set the standard for the era. This 1975 example carries the deep high-polish blue, the Elliason target rear sight with square notch, and the checkered walnut target grips with gold medallions that Python buyers expect.
The bore is bright with sharp rifling, the action functions properly with no play at each chamber, and the original finish remains at about 95 percent. At over fifty years old it is C&R eligible. It remains a fine shooter and a strong representative of the classic Python for the Colt collector. Please see our high definition photos via the link and good luck on your bids! -MY
