Our Assessment: The Colt Police Positive Target revolver is a refined target-oriented variant of Colt’s small frame double action revolvers, produced during the early twentieth century. Introduced as an upgrade to the standard Police Positive, the Target Model featured adjustable sights and a longer barrel to enhance accuracy and precision. Manufactured in 1926, this revolver reflects Colt’s craftsmanship during the interwar period, when precision target shooting was gaining popularity. Chambered in .22 Winchester Rimfire, a cartridge introduced in the late nineteenth century, the platform offered improved velocity over .22 Long Rifle and was well suited for target and small game use.
This example retains about 97 percent of its original blued finish with light handling and operational wear, including scattered scratches, thinning at the muzzle, and a faint cylinder turn line. The checkered walnut grips with Colt medallions show light handling wear with minor marks and some verdigris at the escutcheons but remain in Fine condition with no cracks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and light fouling present, rating 9 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly with solid lockup, a smooth double action pull, and a crisp single action break. The revolver includes a Colt box and presents as a high condition example of a Colt Police Positive Target from the 1920s.
