Our Assessment: The Colt Peacemaker .22 was introduced in 1970 as a rimfire counterpart to the Single Action Army, combining traditional frontier styling with economical .22-caliber operation. Developed from Colt’s earlier Frontier Scout series, it used a reduced-size single-action frame, fixed sights, side loading gate, manual ejector, and interchangeable cylinders for .22 Long Rifle and .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire. This dual-cylinder arrangement allowed inexpensive recreational practice with .22 LR while providing increased velocity and performance with .22 Magnum ammunition. Produced in several barrel lengths during the 1970s, the Peacemaker .22 became popular as a plinking, training, and small-game revolver and remains collectible for its genuine Colt manufacture, classic handling, and close visual association with the company’s legendary centerfire Peacemaker.
This 1972 Colt Peacemaker retains approximately 98% of its original finish, with only minor loss at the ejector-rod housing, light scuffing beneath the barrel, and small compression marks on the backstrap. The case colors remain vibrant, the checkered synthetic stocks are in Fine condition, and the bright 9/10 bore retains sharp rifling without visible erosion. The action functions correctly, and the included .22 Magnum cylinder, paperwork, and period Colt box complete its desirable convertible configuration.
