Sights/Optics: The front sight is a short metal blade fixed to the slide. The rear sight is a square notch dovetailed to the slide. The top of the slide has a matte finish for glare reduction.
Markings: The left side of the slide is marked with “MUSTANG PLUS II” between 2 mustangs. The left side of the frame is marked with the serial number. The right side of the slide is marked “COLT’S PT. FA. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.” The barrel is marked “CAL 380”.
Stock Configuration and Condition: The grips are two piece smooth rosewood with silver Mustang medallions. There are little to no handling marks, with minor areas of finish loss. There are no cracks or chips. Overall the grips are in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is very minor fouling in the bore. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates a 9/10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its finish. There is handling wear, with scratches and scuffs. There is corrosion freckling and staining along the finish. The barrel, hood, and action shows minor operational wear. Overall, this pistol rates in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Colt Mustang Plus II was introduced during the 1980s as part of Colt’s effort to produce compact, lightweight defensive pistols that retained the familiar controls and ergonomics of the 1911 platform in a scaled-down package. The Mustang series quickly developed a reputation for combining manageable recoil, slim dimensions, and traditional single action operation into an easily carried concealed handgun. The Plus II variant added an extended grip frame and increased magazine capacity while maintaining the compact slide and barrel configuration, offering shooters improved control and additional capacity without significantly increasing overall size. Chambered in .380 Auto, a cartridge developed by John Moses Browning in 1908 and widely respected for compact defensive pistols, the Mustang Plus II became one of the defining pocket-style Colt handguns of the late 20th century.
This 1988-produced example remains in excellent condition with strong original nickel finish retention and only light evidence of handling and operational use. The pistol presents attractively with smooth rosewood grips featuring silver Mustang medallions, while the compact proportions and polished appearance capture the styling that made the Mustang series so popular during the concealed carry boom of the 1980s and 1990s. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling, and the included Colt cardboard box adds to the overall package despite not being serial matching. The Mustang line has gained increasing collector interest in recent years as Colt’s original compact .380 pistols continue to be appreciated for their balance of classic Colt styling, practical defensive dimensions, and connection to the company’s broader Government Model lineage.
