Magazine Quantity & Condition: 1x 7-round two-tone magazine. The magazine shows operational use. There is some corrosion staining. Overall, the magazine rates in Very Good condition.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a short thin metal blade fixed to the slide. The rear sight is a round-top square notch dovetailed to the slide.

Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “PATENTED APR 20. 1897” / “SEPT.9.1902 DEC.19.1905 FEB.14.1911” / “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO.” / “HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A.” and a circled Rampant Colt logo at the rear of the slide. The right side of the slide is marked “MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY”. The rear of the slide above the firing pin is marked with an inspector mark. The left side of the frame is marked with “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” and “WGP” inspector mark near the magazine release. There are inspection stamps on the interior of the frame. There is an “LG” scratched into the left side of the trigger.

Stock Configuration and Condition: The grips are a two piece checkered walnut with smooth diamonds. There are minor handling marks and compression dents. The checkering remains defined with minor peak loss. There are no cracks or chips. Overall, the grips are in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with defined rifling. There is erosion within the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates about 7/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 85% of its original finish. There are scattered scratches and compression marks across the metal surfaces. There is finish loss at the muzzle, along the frame, and the front and back straps. There are takedown scratches. The action shows operational wear. The screws are sharp with light tooling. The markings are clear and legible. There is a lanyard loop attached to the base of the frame. Overall, this pistol rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The safeties function properly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Colt Model of 1911 U.S. Army is one of the most important American military handguns ever produced, adopted by the United States after extensive trials and serving as the foundation for more than a century of 1911-pattern pistol development. Designed by John Browning, the Model 1911 combined a short-recoil operating system, single-action trigger, grip safety, manual thumb safety, detachable 7-round magazine, and .45 ACP chambering into a durable and powerful military sidearm. Early Colt production examples are especially desirable to collectors because they represent the first years of U.S. service pistol manufacture, before the later M1911A1 updates and wartime simplifications. This example was manufactured in 1912, placing it among the earliest Colt military-production 1911 pistols. Its “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” frame marking, “MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY” slide legend, early patent-date slide markings, circled Rampant Colt, WGP inspector mark, lanyard-loop frame, double-diamond walnut grips, and two-tone magazine all contribute to its strong appeal as an early U.S. martial Colt.

The pistol retains about 85% of its original finish with scattered scratches and compression marks, muzzle finish loss, finish loss along the frame, frontstrap, and backstrap, takedown scratches, operational wear, and sharp screws with light tooling. The grips rate in Fine condition with minor handling marks, compression dents, defined checkering, minor peak loss, and no cracks or chips. The bore is bright with defined rifling and visible erosion, rating about 7 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The action and safeties function correctly, and the included two-tone magazine rates Very Good with operational wear and corrosion staining. This pistol should appeal strongly to Colt collectors, U.S. military handgun collectors, C&R buyers, and advanced 1911 enthusiasts looking for an early 1912-production U.S. Army Colt with clear markings and substantial remaining original finish.
