Overall, the grip is in Very Good condition as an Antique.

Bore Condition: The bore is dark with well-defined rifling. There is scattered light-to-moderate erosion and pitting. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates about 4/10.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains approximately 20% of its metal finish. The barrel, cylinder, and backstrap show finish in protected areas. The frame and steel surfaces have mostly gone to a light patina. Most of the trigger guard’s silver plate has worn away, exposing the brass underneath, with some remaining silver in protected areas. There is scattered light oxidation, minor erosion, and nicks, scuffs, and scratches, with notable marks around the wedge on each side of the barrel. The screw heads range from sharp to tool-marked but remain serviceable. The markings are generally clear, though some are worn. Overall, this revolver is in Very Good condition as an Antique.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrel has no play relative to the frame. The cylinder locks up with light play on each chamber. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with a leather flap-holster. The holster appears roughly contemporary to the revolver but is unmarked and has a torn flap strap.

Our Assessment: The Colt Model 1860 Army revolver is one of the most iconic firearms in American history, serving prominently during the Civil War and into the Reconstruction era. This particular revolver, made in 1866, represents a commercial model produced shortly after the war, during a transformative period in U.S. history.

This example is all matching, with a roll-marked naval scene on the cylinder and strong mechanical condition, making it a valuable piece for collectors. While the revolver retains only 20% of its original finish, its patina and wear tell a story of its age and history. The accompanying antique holster, despite its worn condition, adds another layer of historical significance.

For collectors and historians, this revolver is a tangible connection to a pivotal time in American history. Its remarkable mechanical condition, original finish, and engraved cylinder scene make it a standout piece for display or study. So bid high and bid firm. I highly encourage you to look at its condition in our high-quality photos. Good luck with your bid. -K.F.
