Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “COLT MARK IV/SERIES ’80 / GOVERNMENT MODEL – 380 AUTO” and with the Rampant Colt logo, the right is marked “GOVERNMENT MODEL”. The right side of the frame is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.”. The left side of the frame is marked with the serial number. The barrel is marked “CAL. 380”. The left of the trigger guard is marked with “VP” in a triangle at the rear and “3” at the front, the right is marked “N”.

Sights / Optics: The pistol is mounted with a square notched rear sight dovetailed into the slide and a short ramped blade front sight integral to the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece textured black rubber Pachmayr grips. There is scattered light handling wear. There are no major defects. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blued, Polished Flats and Matte Rounds

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are some light handling marks. There are a couple of light marks that have thinned the finish, most noticeable on the trigger guard. There is some light thinning on the leading edges. There are some minor draglines. There are a few scattered light handling marks. The grip screws are lightly worn and the markings are clear. Overall, this pistol rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a blue Colt case (non-serial matching), paperwork including the manual, five 7-round magazines, and a Bianchi holster.

Our Assessment: This is a nice Colt Series 80 .380 Government Model single-action pistol that has only seen light use. It is in about Fine condition with about 97% of its finish remaining. It is a relatively small pistol and just about perfect for concealed carry. We are old school and like the idea of being able to carry a pistol cocked and locked for a single action trigger pull on the first shot instead of the mushy trigger pulls required for some of the small plastic pistols being made today. Also, with its all steel frame and slide, it will easily absorb the recoil of the hottest .380 A.C.P. rounds. Although the .380 Government Model is an ideal carry gun, it is no longer being made, and this always makes the collectors take notice. Please see our photos and good luck!
