Our Assessment: The Colt M4A1 Carbine is a civilian semi automatic counterpart to one of the most recognizable military rifles of the modern era, developed from the M16 platform and refined through decades of U.S. military service. Colt’s M4A1 pattern rifles reflect the evolution of Eugene Stoner’s direct impingement system, emphasizing lightweight construction, modularity, and consistent performance. By 2013, rifles such as this represent a mature iteration of the platform, incorporating flat top receivers for optics mounting and compatibility with a wide range of accessories. Chambered in 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington, cartridges developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s for high velocity, low recoil performance, the platform has become a standard across military, law enforcement, and civilian markets worldwide.
This example retains about 99 percent of its original anodized finish, showing only minimal operational wear with light brass marks on the case deflector, minor scratches on the barrel, and slight oxidation at the flash hider. The markings remain clear, and the hardware is sharp throughout. The collapsible stock, quad rail handguard, and A2 grip are all in Excellent condition with little to no handling wear. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion, rating 9 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly and features an ambidextrous safety selector. The rifle is equipped with an EOTech HHS I system, consisting of an EXPS3-4 holographic sight paired with a G33 magnifier, completing a modern and versatile configuration.
