Our Assessment: The Colt M45A1 Close Quarters Battle Pistol was developed as a modern combat-oriented evolution of the legendary M1911 platform for use by the United States Marine Corps. Built through Colt’s Custom Shop, the M45A1 retained the proven ergonomics and .45 ACP chambering of the traditional Government Model while incorporating extensive updates intended for modern battlefield use. Features such as the MIL-STD-1913 accessory rail, National Match barrel, Novak Trijicon night sights, enhanced grip texturing, and durable Decobond finish reflected the Marine Corps’ demand for a rugged sidearm capable of hard operational service. Chambered in .45 ACP, the cartridge that has accompanied the 1911 through more than a century of American military history, the M45A1 represents one of the final major military refinements of the classic Colt Government Model before the widespread transition to polymer-framed service pistols.
This example remains in excellent condition with nearly complete original finish retention and only light operational evidence visible around the controls and slide serrations. The Desert Tan and brown Decobond finish gives the pistol the unmistakable appearance associated with the USMC CQBP program, while the textured multi-tone G10 grips, lanyard loop, and railed frame reinforce its purpose-built fighting configuration. The bright bore, sharp rifling, and properly functioning action further reflect careful preservation. Included with the pistol are two Wilson Combat magazines, the serial-matching Colt case, paperwork, and factory accessories, creating a highly desirable package for both Colt collectors and modern military pistol enthusiasts. Combining Custom Shop quality, military lineage, and the enduring appeal of the 1911 platform, the M45A1 remains one of Colt’s most respected modern combat handguns.
