Stock Configuration and Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth wood with Colt medallions. There is a little bit of bubbling in the finish at some edges and a few minor nicks and scuffs. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Fine condition.

Type of Finish: Blue and Stainless

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are a few minor scuffs and tiny marks. The action shows minor operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The slide has light play to the frame. The trigger has a slight takeup with a crisp break. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, it may need a thorough cleaning to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: This pistol comes in a burgundy cardboard Colt box with a serial-matching label, styrofoam inserts, an assortment of factory paperwork including manual and a single 9-round magazine. The box has wear and tear with the non-label end torn off, but included.

Our Assessment: Colt Gold Cup National Match pistols were the benchmark standard for a .45 Auto target pistol for decades. With hand-fitted parts, match grade barrels and bushings, adjustable target sights and a wider trigger adjustable for over-travel, they came from Colt’s factory with upgrades you could spend more than the price of the pistol to have done by a gunsmith on a standard 1911.

This example is a little more special than your standard GCNM. It is the Gold Cup Elite IX National Match, part of the Elite Gold Cup series, a special edition contracted by AcuSport in the 1980s. The Elite pistols were produced in .45, 9mm and .38 Super, having a two-tone finish and smooth wood grips. The series had limited production, there were only 750 made in 9mm like this one. This example is in Excellent condition with its original box and factory paperwork, perfect for the Colt collector. If the collectors get outbid, this pistol promises to be one heck of a shooter.  Please see our photos and good luck!
