Markings: The left of the slide is marked “COLT / MK II”, two eagle heads, and “DOUBLE EAGLE / -FIRST EDITION-“. The right of the slide is marked “COLT DOUBLE ACTION / -10mm-” and behind the serrations with a small German proof. The right of the frame is marked “COLTS PT. F.A., MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.”, with German Munich proofhouse 1990 dated proofs, and “DT00453”. The top of the chamber is marked “-CAL 10 MM AUTO-“, the right has a German proof.

Sights/ Optics: The front sight is a blade with a white dot fixed to the slide. The rear sight is a square-notch with two white dots, dovetailed to the rear of the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The grip panels are two piece checkered black synthetic and there is a black synthetic checkered back-strap. The grips have minor handling wear with a few small marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Stainless Steel

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: The pistol retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are a few scattered minor marks, mostly on the left toward the front. The action shows minor operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Fine-Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The single-action trigger is crisp and the double-action is smooth. The slide to frame fit is snug. We did not fire this pistol. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box Paperwork and Accessories: The pistol comes with a total of two 8-round magazines and an assortment of factory paperwork including user manual.

Our Assessment: This Colt Double Eagle Mark II Series 90 is a single and double-action semi-automatic pistol chambered for 10mm. The Colt Double Eagle line was a series of Colt Model 1911s manufactured from approximately 1990-1996. The Double Eagles operate with the Browning/Colt short recoil system, feature a pivoting lock system that was used by the Government Model, have a decocking lever and squared off combat trigger guard. This particular handgun is a First Edition, from the first year of production, 1990. With its 10mm chambering and first year production, this is not a common variant of the Double Eagle. It’ also interesting due to the German proof marks on its barrel, slide and frame, possibly indicating purchase by a serviceman stationed in Germany in 1990. For fans of Colt and 10mm, this is a nicely made variant you do not want to miss out on!
