Our Assessment: Aimed at the Cowboy Action Shooting competitor, Colt’s Cowboy model retains the appearance of the classic Single Action Army, but with some features more desirable to the competitor and recreational shooter including a transfer-bar safety mechanism. The blue finish has a medium polish instead of the high polish of the SAA and the frame is cast rather than forged, allowing the model to be offered at a notably lower price than the SAA. Introduced in 1999, the Cowboy had a fairly short production run. As with many such models, their short production run makes them a desirable model for the collector who wants one of each model produced by Colt and this example is in Excellent condition. Coming in its original box, it will suit the collectors, but it was made for shooting and should prove equally suited to all of your .45 Colt revolver needs. Please see our photos and good luck in your bidding! Please note: The case/sleeve label notes that the finish is blue/color case finish which is standard for the Colt Cowboy. Our determination is that the all-blue finish on the revolver IS the customization, thus earning the “Z” in the model number.
