Our Assessment: This Colt Combat Commander, manufactured in 1973, is a highly regarded variant of the iconic 1911, chambered in .45 ACP. Distinguished by its shorter 4 3/8-inch barrel, this model strikes a balance between compactness and reliable stopping power, making it ideal for both concealed carry and duty use. Unlike the standard Colt Government Model, the Combat Commander features an aluminum alloy frame, reducing its overall weight without sacrificing durability or reliability, contributing significantly to its popularity among law enforcement, military personnel, and civilian shooters seeking a practical sidearm.

As a Curio & Relic (C&R) eligible firearm, this 1973 Combat Commander appeals to collectors and enthusiasts due to its vintage status, historical significance, and enduring functionality. With classic styling, including checkered walnut grips and traditional Colt roll markings, this pistol embodies the craftsmanship and design excellence characteristic of Colt’s legacy. Its blend of manageable recoil, ergonomic handling, and legendary reliability ensures its continued relevance today, both as a collectible piece and a capable shooter for practical use.
