Our Assessment: This is a 2nd Generation “F”-Series Colt 1847 Walker. The 1847 Colt Walker was the largest and most powerful black powder repeating handgun ever made. It was created in the mid-1840s in a collaboration between Texas Ranger Captain Samuel Hamilton Walker (1817–47) and American firearms inventor Samuel Colt (1814–62), building upon the earlier Colt Paterson design. Walker wanted a handgun that was extremely powerful at close range.
This example is a 2nd Generation “F-Series” reproduction manufactured by Colt between 1980 and 1982. These revolvers were produced to faithfully recreate the appearance and handling of the original Walker revolvers while benefiting from modern manufacturing methods and materials. The revolver features the classic Texas Ranger and Indian battle scene engraved on the cylinder along with traditional markings and the distinctive 9-inch barrel that helped define the Walker’s formidable reputation.
This revolver remains in Excellent overall condition and retains about 99% of its original blue, case-colored, and brass finishes with minimal signs of handling. The smooth walnut grip is in excellent shape, and the bright bore with sharp rifling indicates very limited use. Mechanically the revolver functions correctly with the exception of a tight hammer spring that needs lubrication. It is accompanied by its original Colt cardboard box and paperwork. As a faithful reproduction of one of Colt’s most historic percussion revolvers, this Walker offers collectors and shooters the opportunity to own and enjoy a legendary black powder design without the cost or risk associated with firing an original 19th-century example.
