Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “”Pearl Harbor Coral Sea Corregidor / Guadalcanal Tarawa Saipan Leyte Iwo Jima Okinawa Tokyo”. There are feather motifs on both sides. The right side of the slide is marked “World War II Commemorative / Pacific Theater Of Operations”. The right side of the frame is marked “8578 PTO” and the left side is marked “Colt’s PT.F.A. Mfg. Co. / Hartford, Conn. U.S.A.” The grips have inset gold colored Colt logos. The bottom of the slide rail right side is marked “8578”. The bottom of the magazine is marked “Colt / .45 Auto”. The bottom of the wood presentation box has what looks like an ink stamping of “Sep 67 1”, and hand marked “539”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed serrated blade. The rear sight is a square cut notch set in a dovetail.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are nicely grained dark red colored wood. There are light handling marks present and one observable scratch on the left grip below the top screw. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish showing just some circular scratches on the barrel at the muzzle. The screw heads are sharp and undamaged. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This 1911 comes in its wood factory presentation box. The box lid shows a picture of the Japanese surrender. The box itself has very good hinges and corners with the exception of the lower portion front edge corners which show small chips missing. The top surface of the lower box shows scratches. The rattan top surface of the lid is intact and Very Good. The interior of the box shows clean green felt in Very Good condition with no stains. There are no bullets in the wooden slots. The key is present. The condition of this box is Excellent overall. One magazine is provided.

Our Assessment: This is a fine example of the Colt 1911 Commemoratives, this one is “The Pacific Theater” and lists by name the major island battles. It is a fully functioning Colt 1911 in nickel finish. There are very few marks of any kind on this pistol and the entire package, pistol and box are in Excellent plus condition. This is a rare opportunity to honor that Pacific WWII veteran. This pistol shows light handling and may have been shot a few times.
