Sights/Optics: The front sight is a metal blade fixed to the slide. The rear sight is a square notch dovetailed to the slide. The top of the slide is serrated and matte for glare reduction.
Markings: The left side of the slide marked “COLT .38 SUPER” / “AUTOMATIC” and a Rampant Colt. The right side of the slide is marked “COLT’S MK IV/SERIES ’70” / “GOVERNMENT MODEL” and a Rampant Colt. The right side of the frame is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.” / “GOVERNMENT MODEL” and the serial number.
Stock Configuration and Condition: The grips are two piece smooth grey laminate, with a black nickel Rampant Colt. There are little to no handling marks on the panels. There is a small spot of orange above the left panel top screw. There are no chips or cracks. Overall the grips are in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates a 9.75/10.
Overall Condition: This handgun’s polished stainless surfaces are bright and have minor hairline scratching. The matte stainless has some scuffing on the top of the slide. The frame retains about 99% of its original finish, with only minor handling marks. The barrel and hood show minor operational use. The screws are sharp with minor tooling. Overall, this pistol rates in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Colt Government Model JAL Dark Horse Edition TALO is a scarce and handsome special-edition 1911, reported as 1 of 500 produced and chambered in the ever-desirable .38 Super Auto. Built on the classic full-size Government Model platform, it features a 5″ National Match barrel with a precision recessed crown, Series ’70-style markings, a polished nickel slide over a matte black oxide frame, glare-reducing serrations on the top of the slide, and smooth gray laminate grips set off by black nickel Rampant Colt medallions. The overall presentation is distinctive without being overstated, giving the pistol strong appeal as both a modern Colt collectible and a refined shooter-grade 1911.
The pistol remains in Excellent overall condition, with a bright bore, sharp rifling, and only minor evidence of use. The slide shows minor hairline scratching and some scuffing on the matte top surface, while the frame retains about 99% of its original finish with only light handling marks. The grips are also Excellent, showing little wear aside from the noted small orange spot above the left panel’s top screw. The action functions correctly, and the included serial-matching Colt box, 9-round magazine, paperwork, and child lock add nicely to the package. This is a sharp, limited-production TALO Colt that should appeal to collectors, .38 Super enthusiasts, and fans of special-edition 1911 pistols.
