Sights/Optics: The front sight is a metal blade fixed to the slide. The rear sight is an adjustable Elliason square notch dovetailed to the slide. The sight rib is serrated, and the top of the slide has a matte finish for glare reduction.
Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “COLT’S MK IV/SERIES ’70” / “GOLD CUP NATIONAL MATCH” / “.45 AUTOMATIC CALIBER” and a Rampant Colt. The right side of the slide is marked “GOLD CUP” / “NATIONAL MATCH” and a trophy engraving. The right side of the frame is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A.” and the serial number.
Stock Configuration and Condition: The grips are two piece checkered walnut with gold Rampant Colt medallions. There is little handling wear visible, with only a few peaks being worn. There are no chips or cracks. Overall the grips are in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates about 9/10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its original finish. There are scattered minor handling scratches. There are some polishing marks along the frame. The screws are sharp with minor tooling. The markings are clear and legible. Overall, this pistol rates in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards. There is a lightened aluminum target trigger with an adjustable over-travel screw.

Our Assessment: The Colt Gold Cup National Match was Colt’s premier target-grade Government Model, developed for shooters who wanted a factory-built 1911 with features suited to bullseye and precision pistol competition. Building on the commercial Government Model and National Match lineage, the Gold Cup added target-oriented refinements such as an adjustable rear sight, wide target trigger, serrated sighting plane, National Match markings, and improved shootability while retaining the classic single-action .45 ACP 1911 operating system. The Mk IV/Series 70 Gold Cup pistols are especially desirable to Colt collectors and 1911 enthusiasts because they represent the pre-Series 80 firing-pin-safety era, with traditional lockwork and the handling characteristics many shooters prefer. Manufactured in 1982, this example comes from the later period of Series 70 production and retains its blued finish, Colt medallion walnut grips, Elliason adjustable rear sight, Gold Cup slide markings, and serial-matching Colt “woodgrain” box, giving it strong collector and target-pistol appeal.
