Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “REMINGTON RAND INC.” / “SYRACUSE, N.Y. U.S.A.”. The top of the slide in front of the rear sight is marked with a “P”. The left side of the barrel lug is marked with a “P”. The right side of the barrel lug is marked with an “F” for the Flannery Bolt Co. The left side of the frame is marked with “FJA”,  Lt. Colonel Frank J. Atwood acceptance. Just below the magazine release is marked with a “P”. There is a “VP” or Verified Proof on the front of the left trigger bow. The right side of the frame is marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” / “NO 2407126” / “M 1911 A1 U.S. ARMY”. The front of the right trigger bow is marked with an “A”. One magazine is marked with an “S” on top of the foot, one is marked with an “L” on the top of the foot, and one is marked “19200-” / “ASSY 5508694” / “MFR. 1M291” on the bottom of the magazine.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a small blade that is fixed to the slide. The rear sight is a flat top square-notch that is dovetailed to the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered Keyes Fibre plastic grips with narrow escutcheon rings, reinforcing ribs, and the K/Star logo inside the panels. There is moderate wear, with handling scratches and compression marks. There are areas of peak loss. There are no chips or cracks. The grips are in Good condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is defined. There is minor erosion and light pitting in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates at 7/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 85% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning and there is finish loss on the leading edges of the frame and slide. There are scattered scratches and compression dings throughout. The front strap has handling marks. The serrated backstrap has some dings on the edges. The action shows operational wear. There is a takedown scratch. The markings are mostly legible with some worn. Overall this pistol rates in Very Good condition. 

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: 3x 7-round magazines in Very Good condition, 1 canvas magazine pouch, chamber flag, child lock, paperwork, CMP Authenticity papers, and a foam lined CMP hard case.

Our Assessment:  Remington Rand was the largest producer of U.S. M1911A1 pistols during World War II, manufacturing pistols under wartime contract to help meet the enormous military demand for .45 ACP sidearms. Though better known before the war as a typewriter and office equipment company, Remington Rand became one of the most important wartime 1911A1 makers, and its pistols are now a major collecting category within U.S. martial handguns. The M1911A1 retained John Browning’s proven short-recoil, single-action design while incorporating the interwar A1 updates such as arched mainspring housing, shorter trigger, relief cuts behind the trigger, improved sights, and checkered synthetic stocks. This 1945 example, with FJA acceptance marking, U.S. Property marking, Remington Rand slide, Flannery barrel, Keyes Fibre grips, and CMP documentation, represents a desirable late-war service pistol with strong historical appeal. Its CMP Field Grade status and included CMP case, paperwork, magazines, and accessories add provenance and make it especially attractive to collectors of WWII U.S. military pistols.

The pistol retains about 85% of its metal finish with edge wear, thinning, scattered scratches, compression dings, frontstrap handling marks, backstrap dings, operational wear, a takedown scratch, and markings that remain mostly legible. The grips rate Good, and the bore is bright with defined rifling, minor erosion, and light pitting, rating 7 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly, making this a solid choice for U.S. martial arms collectors, CMP collectors, 1911 enthusiasts, and buyers looking for a documented WWII Remington Rand with honest service wear and a strong accessory package.
