Our Assessment: The CMMG DL44 Mk.4 is a modern rimfire pistol inspired by one of the most recognizable science fiction sidearms ever depicted, blending cinematic styling with contemporary AR-pattern engineering. Built on CMMG’s .22 LR platform, this pistol utilizes a blowback operating system within a familiar modular receiver design, offering reliability and ease of use while maintaining the distinctive profile of the DL44 aesthetic. Chambered in .22 Long Rifle, a cartridge introduced in 1887 and widely used for training and recreational shooting, the platform provides low recoil and economical shooting in a visually unique configuration. This 2025 production example presents in Like New condition, retaining approximately 99 percent or better of its original distressed Cerakote finish, with virtually no visible wear. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 10 out of 10, appearing unfired outside of factory testing. The walnut DL44-style grip remains in Excellent condition, showing no notable handling wear or structural issues. The pistol is equipped with Magpul MBUS folding sights mounted to a flat top Picatinny rail, and includes one 10 round polymer magazine in Excellent condition. Markings are clear, with sharp screw heads and unmarred pins, and the action functions correctly.
The DL44 Mk.4 stands out for its combination of modern rimfire functionality and stylized design, offering a distinctive shooting experience while retaining practical features such as modular rails and durable construction. Its lightweight configuration and low recoil make it well suited for extended range sessions, while its unique appearance adds to its appeal. This example represents a clean and well preserved modern specialty pistol, combining contemporary performance with an iconic visual theme. -R.E.
