Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON” The right side of the barrel is marked .38 S.&W. SPL.”. The right side of the frame is marked with a Marcas Registradas. The left side of the frame has a S&W Monogram. The yoke cut is marked “MOD. 60”. The crane is marked “12025”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a low-profile serrated ramped blade that is integral to the barrel rib. The rear sight is a square notch milled into the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The installed stocks are checkered walnut Magna stocks. They show very light handling wear in the form of tiny areas of finish loss and small scratches. There are no cracks or chips. The checking is sharp. They rate a Very Good to Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, though there is considerable lead fouling. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun shows light handling wear, with tiny scratches on the side plate, frame, cylinder, and barrel. The cylinder has a sharp turn line. There are frosted areas scattered throughout. The screwheads are lightly tooled. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates a Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double action is smooth. The cylinder locks up with moderate side-to-side movement. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Smith & Wesson Model 60 revolver, a stainless steel development of the venerable Smith & Wesson Model 36 Chief’s Special revolver, has been in production since 1965. It was the first regular production all stainless steel firearm made. This model has been popular since its inception, with a waiting list at gun shops for up to six months to purchase one when it was first released. It is a significant piece in the history of firearms.
