Our Assessment: The Uberti Model 1860 Henry, imported by Taylor’s & Co., is a faithful reproduction of one of the most iconic lever-action rifles ever produced. This example is chambered in .45 Colt rather than the original rimfire cartridge, combining classic Henry styling with the practicality of a modern centerfire chambering. It features the traditional 24″ barrel, brass receiver and buttplate, walnut stock, and tubular magazine, and is accompanied by a signed ownership letter from noted firearms instructor Clint Smith, adding unique provenance to an already desirable reproduction.
The original Henry rifle, patented by Benjamin Tyler Henry and introduced in 1860, revolutionized repeating firearms with its reliable lever-action mechanism and sixteen-round tubular magazine. Although produced in relatively limited numbers, the Henry earned an outstanding reputation during the Civil War and on the American frontier, where its unprecedented firepower earned it the nickname “the rifle you could load on Sunday and shoot all week.” Modern reproductions by Uberti have become highly regarded for their quality, historical accuracy, and craftsmanship, allowing shooters and collectors to enjoy one of America’s most influential rifle designs in modern centerfire chamberings.
This rifle remains in Good to Very Good condition, retaining approximately 95% of its original finish with only scattered handling marks, minor brass tarnish, and light age darkening. The walnut stock shows honest handling wear without cracks, while the bright bore retains sharp rifling and rates 9.5/10. Mechanically, the rifle functions correctly, and the included signed Clint Smith ownership letter enhances its collector appeal.
