Our Assessment: The 1911 and 1911-A1 pistols served the military of the United States from 1911 to 1985, through two World Wars and the Korean and Vietnam wars. They gained a reputation as a reliable handgun with plenty of stopping power, and are held in high regard by those who have used them. The design was the end-result of a series of developments by famous gun designer John Browning, starting with the Model 1900. The advances made by Browning were revolutionary at the time, and were so successful that they are considered commonplace today. Browning not only developed first a pivoting and then a tilting barrel to allow for a locked system, he developed the concept of “the slide”, which is now synonymous with semi-automatic handguns.
As with any hobby, with the 1911 you can go as far as your pocketbook will take you. Just about every brand has a 1911 on offer and they range from entry-level to high-end, this example is one of the latter. This one is from Christensen Arms and is their Damascus Government model. Briefly available from 2013-2015, this pistol features a beautiful Damascus pattern slide paired with a titanium frame. It is a Christensen after all, so they had to get carbon fiber on the pistol somehow and the frame is fitted with handsome carbon fiber grips. In terms of features this pistol has all the usual suspects in terms of desired features including front and back strap checkering, extended indexing beavertail grip safety, beveled magazine well, extended thumb safety, lo-mount sights, and skeletonized hammer and trigger. The pistol is all hand fitted and the work is excellent, only to be found in the echelons of custom and semi-custom 1911s. This pistol looks nearly brand new and is in Excellent condition. If you’ve been looking to get a premium-quality 1911 to add to your collection, you can’t do much better than this beautiful Government Model. Please see our photos and good luck!
